大家好，欢迎收听本期柠檬电台，我是主播Benjamin。

Today I want to share you guys how to China made piano on its own.

今天我想和大家分享一下中国是如何自己制造钢琴的。

The piano used to be a rare foreign import in China; now four in fiveare made here. Much of this can be traced back to the tiny Chinese island of Gulangyu.

在中国，钢琴曾经是从国外传入的稀罕物件，而现在五分之四的钢琴由中国制造。这其中的许多故事要追溯到中国的一座小岛——鼓浪屿。

After the first opium war in 1842, foreign powers forced the emperor to permit their residents to live in several “treaty ports”. One of those was Xiamen. Gulangyu, which lies just a five-minute ferry ride offshore, was an international settlement. Expatriates popularised the piano as an everyday amusement. There was soon hardly a family on the island that did not host or go to hear an evening recital.

在 1842 年第一次鸦片战争之后，外国势力强迫清朝皇帝批准外国人居住在几处“通商口岸”， 其中一处就是厦门。鼓浪屿位于离厦门只有五分钟轮渡距离的近海上，那时它成为了一处国际化的定居点。移居此地的外国人在岛上普及钢琴，让钢琴成了人们日常的娱乐方式。很快，岛上几乎每家每户都会举办或聆听晚间演奏会。

For decades the island has claimed a distinction: the largest number of pianos per person in China. The result was a stream of outstanding musicians. The island’s most celebrated musician is Yin Chengzong. In 1969 he arranged an earlier revolutionary cantata into the “Yellow River Piano Concerto”. It remains China’s most famous orchestral composition.

数十年间，鼓浪屿保持着一项殊荣：人均拥有钢琴数量为全国之最。这让岛上涌现出了一大批优秀的音乐家。其中最著名的当数音乐家殷承宗。1969 年，他把一首早期的革命大合唱改编为“黄河钢琴协奏曲”。这部协奏曲迄今仍是中国最著名的管弦乐作品。

Where once Western classical music flowed into China, pianists and their renditions are pouring out. Of the 50m children learning the instrument worldwide, as many as 40m may be Chinese. The government lavishes money on orchestras, which now number over 80, and new concert halls. Fastidious parents and cool young things fill them to hear the latest wunderkind — among whose number, in recent decades, have been Lang Lang, and Yuja Wang — play some beautifully judged Bach or fiendishly hard Rachmaninov.

曾经，大量西方古典音乐传入中国，而如今，中国的钢琴家带着他们精彩的演出走向世界。全世界学习钢琴的五千万儿童中，中国儿童可能多达四千万。中国政府投入大笔资金培养管弦乐队（目前总数已超过 80 支）以及建造新的音乐厅。挑剔的家长和时髦的年轻人挤满了音乐厅，前来聆听最新的天才音乐家的演奏（近几十年来，这些音乐家包括郎朗、和王羽佳），这些人弹奏的是巴赫公认的佳作或拉赫玛尼诺夫创作的极其复杂的乐曲。
